Hydrogen pioneer – helping Europe seal the green deal.
BDR Thermea Group manufactures and distributes smart thermal comfort solutions in heating technology with a near-zero carbon footprint. The international company has been developing hydrogen for use in heating technology for years. In 2019, they piloted the first 100%-hydrogen boiler in a real-life application in the Netherlands. In the UK, they participate in the UK Hy4Heat programme. Projects in Germany are in preparation with local partners. The domestic fuel cells are being prepared to be powered with hydrogen.
Recently, BDR Thermea Group has joined the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance to support the European Commission developing a globally competitive hydrogen industry by 2050.
Remeha and SenerTec – energy transition becomes a reality.
In Germany, Remeha and SenerTec as part of BDR Thermea Group stand for unique expertise in combined heat and power and fuel cell technologies for heating systems. With joint projects, both brands are pioneers in developing innovative solutions that deliver heat and electricity saving CO2 emissions and making system owners independent of rising electricity costs. Whether it is in a new or existing building, Remeha and Senertec deliver future-proof solutions for every individual heating system and actively shape the energy transition.
In this context, both companies are participating in PACE, an important EU project that promotes the use of fuel cell heating. The aim of the initiative is to draw attention to the potential of fuel cell systems for decarbonising the buildingsector. An important step on the way to green buildings!
BDR Thermea has its head office in the Netherlands and its global brands like Baxi, De Dietrich, Brötje, Remeha, SenerTec, Chappée and Baymak focus on strong local presence and support for installers.
European greenhouse businesses are increasingly looking for more sustainable and reliable energy solutions to reduce their carbon footprint and energy bills. The horticultural company Varegro has teamed up with COGEN Europe member Cummins to generate on-site electricity and heat for its 40,000 m² facility with a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit.
Dependable power source
When power outages can have a costly and potentially catastrophic impact on production, reliability is key. The Cummins HSK78G CHP unit has been designed to operate effectively in extreme weather, ensuring minimal downtime, whatever the site conditions. With full power capability up to 40°C (104F) with standard turbo offering, and up to 55°C (131F) with high ambient turbo offering, the HSK78G is designed to adapt to the site’s environment, temperature, atmospheric and ground conditions.
Energy efficiency
As well as providing dependable heat and power to the energy-intensive facility, the HSK78G generator can recover CO2 via a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, further increasing energy efficiency and reducing emissions. With electrical efficiency of 44.2%, the system achieves further fuel savings by turning waste heat into productive energy, which is used for heating purposes and CO2 recuperation from the exhaust. Surplus electricity is sold back to the grid, offering an additional return on investment for Varegro.
Stefan De Wit, Project Manager, Cummins Power Generation, said: "For Varegro, being able to rely on a power source that can withstand any environmental influence is critical. The addition of exhaust gas heat exchangers and heat condensers provides total efficiency of 103%. - offering maximum efficiency with the greatest possible cost savings to the customer.”
The HSK78G is the largest of Cummins’ gas generator range, which includes the C25G and QSK60G series, offering a range of integrated solutions from 500kW to 2MW. Cummins’ gas generators combine fuel flexibility with reliability, providing significant cost of ownership and energy efficiencies for any gas power need.
